WEEE Information

What is WEEE

WEEE is waste electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), i.e. all equipment that depends on electric currents or electromagnetic fields for proper functioning, and the equipment for generating, transferring and measuring these currents and fields. WEEE often contains toxic and polluting substances and its abandonment can therefore cause environmental
pollution with effects also on human health.
Legislative Decree 49/2014 on waste electrical and electronic equipment.

This decree stipulated that all electrical and electronic devices that have reached the end of their life cycle should not go into the normal municipal solid waste stream, but should follow a differentiated collection procedure, favouring the recovery and recycling of the materials of which they are composed.
Consumers may hand in their discarded electrical and electronic equipment to the public collection service, take them to the appropriate municipal areas (ecological islands) or return them to retailers. All major manufacturers are active in setting up and managing collection and disposal systems for discarded equipment.

In compliance with the provisions of Italian Ministerial Decree No. 65/2010, art. 1, paragraph 1, and Legislative Decree 49/2014, art. 11, paragraph 1, customers are hereby informed that Platum S.p.A. ("Platum S.p.A."), when supplying a new
piece of electrical or electronic equipment (defined as EEE) destined for a household, ensures the free take-back of the old piece of electrical or electronic equipment (defined as WEEE) having the same functionality. It is specified that the free take-back of WEEE ("WEEE 1-for-1", as provided for by Ministerial Decree no. 65/2010) takes place on condition that the WEEE comes from a household and is of an equivalent type, i.e. that it has performed the same functions as the new equipment purchased.

WITHDRAWAL 1:1

The WEEE 1:1 take-back service, as defined by the regulations in force, applies in cases of supply of a new equivalent appliance on a "one-for-one" basis to WEEE from private households.
WEEE from commercial, industrial, institutional and other (dual use) sources, similar in nature and quantity, are also assimilated to household WEEE.

Conditions for requesting collection

In order to benefit from the take-back of used EEE products, it is necessary to verify that the new equivalent equipment purchased on the Platum Store website ("Site") from Platum S.p.A. bears the wording "Product subject to WEEE" or other wording or icon indicating that the product is subject to WEEE.

There is no free take-back for the purchase of items not belonging to the EEE category, the details of which can be found in Annexes 1 and 2 of Legislative Decree 49/2014;
Pursuant to Art. 12(4) of Legislative Decree 49/2014, the take-back of WEEE may be refused:

  • if there is a risk of contamination of the take-back personnel;
  • if the WEEE is missing its essential components;
  • if the equipment for which the take-back was requested contains waste other than WEEE;

How to apply for free WEEE take-back / How free WEEE take-back takes place

  • once the delivery of the product purchased on the Site has been received, the user, in order to request the WEEE Service, must send an e-mail to raee@platum.com with the subject line "WEEE collection" indicating the reference order number of the new equivalent equipment purchased;

  • in the event of purchasing several products, the user must specify in the body of the e-mail the quantity of products for which he wishes to benefit from the WEEE Service, which number may not exceed the quantity of products purchased;

  • the user will then be contacted by the courier appointed by Platum S.p.A. no later than seven working days after the WEEE Service request, in order to agree on the date of collection;

  • collection of the WEEE, unless otherwise specified by the user, shall take place no later than 30 working days after receipt of the request;

  • on the agreed date, the user shall have the used equipment ready for collection, packed and ready for collection from its location. Please note that the pick-up address of the equipment to be collected must coincide with the delivery address of the newly purchased equipment;

  • the user acknowledges that, in the event that it emerges during collection that the used equipment is not of an equivalent type to the new equipment supplied, the courier appointed by Platum S.p.A. will not proceed to collect the product, and that in the event that this mismatch emerges from the WEEE Service request email, this courier will not proceed to contact the user.
